Swimming Merit Badge

We will meet at the small gazebo to the right of the Gerri Ayers pool on Saturday, May 7 at 12:30 to work on the classroom portion of the MB prior to swim test.  The merit badge workbook is attached for you to print and bring with you to the class.

Passing the swim test is required to work on the remainder of the requirements.  We plan to offer sign offs on rescues for both rank requirements and the merit badge.  We may be able to work on other sign offs as well since we will have the pool for a few hours this time.  I will be willing to work with Scouts to complete other sign offs throughout the “swim party” but will also have smaller classes available on some weekends over the course of the summer to allow everyone to complete their MB.

If you have access to a pool, please try to work on some of the items that you may be less familiar with … sidestroke (p 45-46), elementary backstroke (p 50-51), feetfirst surface dive (p 53), headfirst surface dive (p 54), survival floating (p 30-31) … and make sure to practice your bowline knot for your line tender rescue.

If you have a proper fitting lifejacket please bring it with you. Please do not purchase one for the purpose of this merit badge. I have a few different sizes that I will bring with me.Date: 05/07/2022 (Sat.)Time: 12:30pm – 2:00pm CDTLocation: Gerri Ayers Pool
